How many fallas are there in Valencia? Four official figures that don't match

700, 750, 800 or just over 300: four different sources give four different answers to the same question, because none publishes the same counting method. The census of falleros, on the other hand, does have a clear series.

How many fallas are there in Valencia? Four official figures that don't match

The question "how many fallas are there in Valencia?" looks as if it has a simple answer, and it doesn't. Four sources give four different figures for what appears to be the same thing, and none publishes the method it uses to count.

How many monuments are there, and who says so?

FigureSourceYearWhat it claims to measure

All four can be right at once: no official body publishes a shared definition of what counts as a "monument", or of whether smaller installations, associated commissions or children's fallas are included in the total. Choosing one would mean inventing a precision the sources don't have.

And how many falleros are there?

Here there is a clean series, because it is always published by the same body: the Junta Central Fallera. The census of falleros, the registered members of the Fallas commissions, grew strongly in three years.

YearFallas census
2023103,317
2025126,819
2026128,675

Of the 128,675 falleros in 2026, the census counts 72,221 women, or 56.13%, according to Valencia Extra. A 2025 economic study quoted by Business Insider gives a very different figure, nearly 90,000 falleros that same year, without explaining the gap with the official census: we note it without ruling on it.

The commissions, on the other hand, do match across sources: nearly 350 according to the city council and 348 according to the 2025 study. It is the only number on this page with no contradiction.

Nobody knows exactly how many fallas there are, but we do know which ones you can visit inside: the Sección Especial ones, from 16 to 19 March. Compare guided routes through their workshops before losing yourself among 700 to 800 monuments with no plan.

Why can't anyone give a single number?

Because doing so would mean faking a figure the sources don't provide. Neither the city council nor the Junta Central Fallera publishes an annual total with an explicit method, broken down by year and available to the public. What exists are press and tourism estimates, with undeclared scopes.

To locate the Sección Especial fallas, the largest selection and how it spreads across neighbourhoods are on the Fallas 2026 map. For this edition's full calendar, see the Fallas 2026 dates. And to understand each event of the festival, see the Fallas festival in Valencia.

Seeing 700, 750 or 800 monuments up close on one trip isn't realistic: what does work is a well-placed night's stay so you can walk around the fallas of a couple of neighbourhoods. Compare accommodation in Ruzafa or El Carmen for the Fallas dates.

Frequently asked questions

How many fallas are there in Valencia in 2026?
There is no single official figure. The city council speaks of around 700 monuments, elDiario.es of around 750, Visit Valencia of 800 on its official map, and Valencia Plaza lists more than 300 on a selection map, not a full count. No source explains its counting method, so no figure is chosen over the others.
How many falleros are there in Valencia?
The Junta Central Fallera census, which is a clear series, gave 103,317 in 2023, 126,819 in 2025 and 128,675 in 2026: 25% more in three years. Of those 128,675, 72,221 are women, 56.13% of the total.
Why don't the monument figures match?
Because each source counts a different scope: big monuments only, big and children's monuments together, smaller installations included or not, associated commissions from outside the city included or not. None of the sources consulted publishes its exact definition, so the difference can't be resolved from the outside.
How many Fallas commissions are there?
The city council speaks of nearly 350 commissions and a 2025 economic study cites 348, figures that do match. It is the only variable on this subject where the sources agree.
