Luggage storage, public toilets and drinking water in Valencia

How many luggage stores, public toilets and water fountains are recorded in the city, where they cluster, and what nobody publishes. A count measured across the whole municipality, not a list of addresses.

Luggage storage, public toilets and drinking water in Valencia

This is the shortest page on the site, and for a reason we would rather state up front: it is the only one of our practical pages without a research file behind it. Our Valencia source material covers parking, transport, accommodation and activities, not street services.

So rather than padding it out with unverified addresses, we give the one thing we have measured: a full count of facilities across the municipality, with its date.

The full count for the city

The figures come from OpenStreetMap's collaborative census, measured on 12 September 2026 across the whole municipality. It is the only source that lets you count these things in one go, and no public authority publishes an equivalent.

ServiceRecords counted
Drinking water fountains858
Public toilets88
Taxi ranks28
Electric charging points12
Luggage storage11

It should be read for what it is. A collaborative census sets a floor, never a ceiling, and its coverage varies by type of object. But the order of magnitude is informative, and the proportion between the rows even more so.

Why are there so many water fountains?

Eight hundred and fifty-eight fountains for a city of this size is a high density, and it is no accident. This is a Mediterranean city where summer comfortably tops thirty degrees for months.

The most useful cluster for a visitor is in the Turia gardens, where the fountains are spread evenly along the nine kilometres of park. It is the route where you least need to buy water.

A common-sense tip, not from a source: in July and August, a refillable bottle saves several euros a day and spares you from hunting for an open shop in mid afternoon.

Where can you leave your luggage?

Eleven recorded points is not many, and they cluster where you would expect: around the Estació del Nord, the bus station and the old town. The logic is the usual one: luggage storage lives where people arrive and leave.

We have to be clear about what we do not know. There is no council inventory of luggage stores, no public reference price and no guarantee of opening hours. Any guide that gives you firm prices has taken them from a commercial website, not an official source.

What you can plan is your departure day, especially with a flight to catch. If your accommodation is in the centre, the station is minutes away and the problem disappears. The real distances are in the Valencia map.

Public toilets: the awkward figure

Eighty-eight records for the whole municipality is a modest figure, and it also mixes two different things: street toilets and toilets in facilities such as parks, markets or stations.

The council publishes no comparable list, so we cannot tell you how many are genuinely open to all or at what times. It is exactly the kind of information a tourist city should publish and does not.

In practice, the reliable spots are the same as in any Spanish city: municipal markets, shopping centres, museums and the main stations. The Mercado Central and the Estació del Nord are a few minutes from each other.

Taxis and electric charging

Twenty-eight taxi ranks recorded, mostly in the centre and at the main transport hubs. In March, be aware that street closures make journeys much longer and that some pick-up points inside the closed perimeter are simply unreachable.

Twelve electric charging points recorded is a low figure, and probably an undercount by the collaborative census. If you are driving an electric car, confirm availability with your provider rather than a general map.

What this page cannot give you

  • No verified luggage storage address, with hours and prices. No official source backs it up.
  • No tap water analysis in our sources, only the density of public fountains.
  • No council list of toilets open to all, with opening hours.
  • No information on the accessibility of these facilities, which is exactly what is most needed.

We would rather leave these gaps in plain sight. An invented address that closed two years ago does more harm than an honest count.

The trick that solves almost all of this: a place to stay in the centre that keeps your bags before check-in and after check-out does away with luggage storage and half an hour of travel in one go.

Where to go next

Transport fares and the right ticket are in how to get around Valencia. If you are driving, start with parking in Valencia. And to choose a neighbourhood, see where to stay in Valencia.

If your trip falls in March, luggage storage is the least of your problems. It is worth checking what is still free for the Fallas dates first, because the well located places sell out months ahead.
