Park and ride in Valencia: where to leave the car

Valencia does not have a branded park and ride network with a single fare, as other European cities do. It has three different things that do the job, with different rules and no document comparing them.

This page is for visitors who arrive by car, most often a hire car picked up at the airport. It sets the three side by side: Metrovalencia's surface station spaces, the EMT multi-storey car parks and the temporary set-up for the Fallas.

Each pin is a named car park on OpenStreetMap. Tap it, then Go: the route opens in driving mode.

Metrovalencia's free spaces

This is the closest thing to a real park and ride. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV, the regional rail operator) announced in 2024 more than 1,500 free spaces at 17 surface stations on lines 1, 2 and 9.

The announcement adds 1,224 more spaces in eight other car parks, and this is where the grey area begins: it does not say which are free or what the others cost. The real total of free spaces is therefore somewhere between 1,500 and 2,724.

That silence is not a detail. It is the difference between planning an arrival and finding a pay barrier at the end of the journey.

How much does it really cost to leave the car outside the city?

Official press releases give the price of the parking and stop there. The full sum includes the metro fare for each passenger, and nobody publishes it. We work it out here with the 2025 fares.

OptionCarTransport, 2 people, return
FGV surface stationFree4 one-zone singles at €1.50 each
Surface station with a SUMA 10Free4 journeys on a one-zone SUMA 10, €4 on promotion, €8 without it
EMT car park in the centre€21.80 short stayNothing, you are already there
Private car park on a peak day€35 to €60Nothing

The conclusion is clear and never written down: for two people, leaving the car outside and taking the metro in costs between a quarter and a third of driving in. For four, the gap narrows but park and ride still wins.

The EMT car parks, which are not park and ride

They are often quoted in the same list, and it is worth separating them. They are multi-storey car parks, mostly central or in residential districts, with a price list designed for season ticket holders: €88.00 a month for the Monday to Friday daytime pass, €117.00 if Saturday is included.

For a visitor, the only relevant rate is the €21.80 short stay for 10 to 24 hours. At that price, a three-day stay comes to more than €65, and a hotel with its own parking stops being a luxury and becomes simple arithmetic.

The comparison that changes the budget: three days of short-stay parking in the centre come to more than €65. Filter for places with parking included and compare the total, not the room rate.

Where can you park during the Fallas?

In 2026 the council signposted parking areas outside the restricted zone, along Maestro Rodrigo, Burjassot, Menéndez Pidal and Tirso de Molina. The stated aim is to avoid crowds and traffic jams.

The statement describes the set-up and gives neither hours nor prices. It is an awkward gap, because a visitor arriving on 17 March needs exactly those two pieces of information.

Local guides also mention a free car park at Valencia Sud with about 536 spaces, and more than 2,700 free spaces in Metrovalencia's outlying car parks. These are press figures, not an official inventory.

Remember that during this period the blue zone is suspended from 9:00 on 9 March to 9:00 on 20 March, but the orange zone becomes residents only. The full details are in parking in Valencia.

What no source publishes

There are more gaps than data here, and it is only fair to say so.

  • Occupancy. Neither FGV nor the council publishes how full the car parks get. The fact that the set-up is stepped up for the Fallas suggests saturation, but no count confirms it.
  • Accessibility. There is no figure for disabled spaces at FGV car parks, nor any rule on free ORA parking for disability card holders.
  • Opening hours. The EMT pages do not mention closures on public holidays or during the Fallas. You have to assume the service is continuous, with nobody guaranteeing it.
  • Private Fallas rates. Private car parks advertise special multi-day prices, only visible through their booking tools. There is no range we can publish.

And the missing sensor: the city's open data portal publishes no real-time occupancy dataset. In this city, unlike others, there is no reliable counter of free spaces we can show you.

Our advice, visit by visit

For a day visit, a surface station on line 1 or 2, a SUMA 10 and the car forgotten until you head back. For a weekend, a place to stay with its own parking space and no driving at all inside the city.

For the Fallas, neither: arrive by public transport and get around on foot. The alternatives are in how to get around Valencia and the distances in the city map.

If you are still choosing where to sleep, our neighbourhood comparison is in where to stay in Valencia, and you can check availability for the Fallas dates before finalising your trip.

Frequently asked questions

Are there free park and ride car parks in Valencia?
Yes. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana announced in 2024 more than 1,500 free spaces at 17 surface stations on Metrovalencia lines 1, 2 and 9, designed for leaving the car and taking the metro in.
How much does park and ride cost in Valencia?
Metrovalencia's surface spaces are free, but every passenger in the car needs a metro ticket. The EMT multi-storey car parks charge €21.80 for a 10 to 24 hour short stay, according to their 2025 price list.
Where can you park during the Fallas in Valencia?
Outside the restricted area. The council signposts parking areas along Maestro Rodrigo, Burjassot, Menéndez Pidal and Tirso de Molina, and Metrovalencia opens its surface spaces. Neither the council's statement nor FGV's publishes detailed hours or prices.
Is park and ride better value than parking in the centre?
Almost always, but the sum is not the one the press releases suggest. The space is free and the metro is not: for four people you have to add four return tickets. Even so it comes in below the €21.80 of a short stay in the centre, and well below the €35 to €60 of a peak day.
